Nvidia Nforce IDE driver...

Hello!

I have an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard which works perfectly fine with my
standard Windows XP IDE drivers. But when I install the Nvidia 4.12 IDE
drivers, I get random lockups (esp when there is a lot of IDE activity, but
also when there is not...)
But performance when writing cd-r(w) on windows xp and ripping cd's is very
bad with the standard IDE drivers; which was a lot better with the Nvidia.

When will there be an update of those drivers? Anyone having the same
problems??
I used to have a Asus A7N8X (not E) Deluxe which behaved JUST THE SAME when
the Nvidia IDE was installed.
For the rest I have all the latest drivers, except IDE from Nvidia.

Plenty of people have the same problem, as well as other problems with
the NVIDIA IDE drivers. But why do you need to install them anyway?
You just said your M/B works perfectly fine with the standard Windows
XP drivers.

DDR400 runs at 266MHz and CPU runs 266MHz (so in sync).
But it is my driver. Uninstalled Nvidia driver => no lockups. Back to Nvidia
driver => lockups started again.

I hate it because the few hours that the pc doesn't lock up with the Nvidia
drivers, I can writer cd-r's more stable and faster. My cd ripping
performance is also much better with them...

My system did not like the Nvidia IDE drivers either. Have you checked that
DMA is ON when you are using the MS IDE drivers?

If your XP 2400 is multiplier unlocked, you can up the FSB and decrease the
multiplier appropriately so the overall speed is the same. This should allow
you to run your memory at/or nearer to its rated speed.

DMA is on. I have tried the older release Nforce drivers. I use the 5.03
release (official, but from the Abit site, not yet released by Nvidia
reference) for all other drivers and use the IDE driver 2.0 from the 3.13
Nforce driver release. This works fine, without lockups. Good ripping speed!
I would like to use the latest drivers, but I guess that won't improve speed
more than max. 2-3% so I don't really care: case closed and problem
solved!!!

I have the K8N-E deluxe and i am using one serial ATA drive and one regular
hard drive. I f i used the NVIDIA driver on the regular drive I had lockups
galore! So I'm using the standard pci ide driver for that one and the Nvidia
for the new serila drive and things are fine! Why? I have no clue!
