floppy disc problem

after the please insert a disc message comes up the green light comes on ,whirring noises are heard,but thats it ,the please insert message stays on

this might indicate that either the floppy cable is loose or the unit is far
out of alignment. Reseat the cables or replace the drive - they are cheap.
(though some manufacturers like Compaq have an annoying habit of shifting
the eject button so that standard drives won't fit. In these cases, a small
file can be used with benefit).
