I have a lot of family footage on video 8. Can anyone tell me how to convert from this format to VCD.Is the quality affected in any way.

This is probably not the easiest way, but it works. Video capture your video(s) into your computer, then if necessary, convert them to NTSC (or PAL, depending on your location) format MPEGs. Then you should be able to use Nero or another burning program to create a VCD from that MPEG.
