On the Windows 7 OEM version can I downgrade it back to XP if I have an application that will not work with Windows 7?

  1. Hello tnewton;

    It's not an option that comes with Windows 7. But you can usually replace Win7 with XP.
    Do you already own a retail copy of WinXP?

    What is the application that will not work on Windows 7?
  2. I'm not sure if you upgraded to Windows 7 Pro, but that does come with XP Mode, which you can try and run older programs on. It's not definite, but it's always worth a shot: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7#section_1

  3. XP mode works great for me. If your version allows it, you need to make certain that virtualization is enabled in the bios. If not, and you have a valid copy of XP, a dual boot system isn't too complicated to set up. There are posts about it here on Tom's.
  4. windows 7 PRO AND windows 7 ENTERPRISE can be loaded with xp mode!
