Hello tnewton;

It's not an option that comes with Windows 7. But you can usually replace Win7 with XP.
Do you already own a retail copy of WinXP?

What is the application that will not work on Windows 7?

XP mode works great for me. If your version allows it, you need to make certain that virtualization is enabled in the bios. If not, and you have a valid copy of XP, a dual boot system isn't too complicated to set up. There are posts about it here on Tom's.
