I have a single floppy disk drive, an LS-120. Under my
computer it shows two floppy drives. The B: drive is my
LS-120 and it works okay. The A: drive shown doesn't
really exist. How can I clear this up and show the LS-
120 as A: with no B:?

Check your motherboard BIOS. It could have a standard floppy drive defined
i it.

I have already looked at my setup. It shows a 1.44M
floppy drive as A:. It doesn't show LS-120 or Superdisk
because it doesn't have that as an option. It was never
a problem until a few days ago when I was trying to get
into safe mode to install a program that was giving me
trouble in normal mode. The problem started when I tried
to boot in safe mode with CD-ROM access. I found a tip
on the web on how to do this. I activated the Startup
menu and went into Command Prompt, then I was supposed to
enter win /d:m but I incorrectly put in win /e:m
instead. After a while I found out that this had
activated a windows troubleshooting switch and I turned
it off. The CD-ROM came back without a problem but the
floppy has been appearing in duplicate ever since. Also,
this started when I was running Windows 98SE but I have
since upgraded to XP. I thought it would be easier to
clear up the problem under XP and some other glitches I
had did clear up when I upgraded, but this floppy disk
situation persists.

Then, you should change it to "None", since you do not have a standard
floppy drive. Your LS120 drive should be connected to an IDE cable. Then,
remove the LS120 drive from Device Manager and reboot. LS120 should now
become A:.
If Windows detects a floppy drive definition in your BIOS, it reserves A:
for it.
BTW: Are you running XP??? If you are running Windows 98SE, please post in
the Windows 98 newsgroupa. Also, you can not disable the A: floppy in
Windows 98. It "seems" to always replace it. XP can live without a floppy.

Progress. I deleted the floppy drive from my setup and
am no longer getting the fictitious floppy drive A:.
However, the LS-120 continues to appear as B:. This is
not a serious problem, I admit, but I'd still rather it
appear as A:. Any idea why it's still picked up as B: or
how to change it to A:?

Under my computer it shows two floppy drives. The B:
drive is my LS-120 and it works okay. The A: drive shown
doesn't really exist. How can I clear this up and show
the LS-120 as A: with no B:?
