we have new laptop and want to use scanner from previous
computer.. this was fine til I had to download something
from microsoft to enable me to do this only my internet
connection didn't connect properly and now the box
telling me what to download isn't coming up
again.....what do I need to update/download to enable me
to use it?

Is the scanner supported in Windows XP? If it is several years old, it
probably is not. If the scanner is relatively new then you need to follow
the instructions on the installation CD for installation of the scanner
drivers and software, plugging the scanner in only when instructed to do so.
