well i just decided to upgrade and bought an asus a7n8x-e, athlon
2800+, nvidia 6800 gt, (2x) 512mb crucial ram, etc. The only major
problem i am having is that i cannot get my computer to use my modem.
It recognizes it fine and will install it back automatically if i
delete it. i don't think it's the modem. every time i attempt to add
a dial-up connection i get an error 711 which states something to the
effect that some setting on my computer is restricting it from adding
a connection. I'm running xp pro and need help badly!!!!!

Did you try Googling ?

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22error+711%22+modem

If you quoted the exact text from the error message, it
might be easier to help you. Otherwise, start the same
way I would, with a Google search to get a feel for exactly
how many ways a modem can screw up.

do you have the firewire ports enabled?...it might be trying to do a network
connection through it instead..I had that happen at first while trying to
get my LAN connection running
