I have been offered a Brother HL-1240 printer but don't know how old it is
or what the original price was.
Could anyone tell me how long they have bee out and some idea of the current
price please?
Thanks

I don't know anything about Brother HL-1240 but few weeks ago I bought a
brand new HL-1440 for under $100 after instant and mail-in rebate. I don't
need the printer itself, but since it uses the same DRUM and cartridge units
with my other MFC-8xxx printer (Multiple Functional something) and the DRUM
life was about to end so I bought to get the DRUM. I was about to buy the
DRUM kit for around $30-40 + S/H to install myself, but since the printer is
cheap so I bought another printer for the drum.

This week, Office MAX has a brand new laser printer for around $100. IOW,
they are pretty cheap so unless you can get it for around $20-30 and check
the Drum (20,000 pages) and Cartridge (3,000 or 6,000 page depending on the
catriage).

If it is anywhere near needing a new drum, price those first. I
decided not to get a 1240 for $20 a couple years ago because it
needed a drum.

Thanks Joel and Bob for your replies...I didn't know about the drum so I'm
gonna say no to this one.
Thanks again
Al

A quick look at Google groups shows the first posts mentioning it in
about Nov 1999.

Just do an "advanced search" and set the date to before Jan 2000 and
you'll find a few dozen posts, should find mention of the price there.

This has nothing to do with your question but I noticed that your Virus
Database is way out of date and it's really useless. I would update your
definitions ASAP if you want to be protected. Just a thought.
