I have reinstalled XP home and SP1. This is a no name reader/writer that I
am sure was plug & play last time it was installed but now I get the message
the drivers are not available for it. I have looked for drivers but can not
find any. Any suggestions?

Use the device manager to remove it and reboot. It should
detect the device as new and install the drivers.

Delete ALL USB ports and hubs in device manager, that should
clear the problem, then reboot and reinstall each device one
at a time.
