A colleague and myself both have the wireless optical
mouse. However, When I use my mouse it also operates on my
colleagues machine, causing no end of difficulties.

Is there anyway in which the frequencies can be altered to
avoid the interference?

If it's Logitech or Microsoft, the mouse has at least 4 channels. To change
them, click the button on the USB attached device, then the button
underneath the mouse you want to associate (in that order).
