PC card connects to wrong AP, help

Ok, i finally got my wireless network working (thanks to those who gave advice) but now I have a new problem. I live in an apartment complex and apparently several people around me also have wireless networks. When I get my card to connect to my AP it works for a while but then invariably it detects another available wireless network and disconnects me and then a little windows (XP) pop-up comes up and says that more than one wireless network is available and I have to choose which network to connect to. This causes me to lose my connection and then I have to re-connect. How can I make my laptop only recognize my personal AP (D-link 900+). I have gone into the options and tried to delete the other networks but since they have poor connection (through the walls from other peoples apartments) they tend to lose their connection and then when they are detected again they reappear as new wireless networks and cause me to lose my connection. Please help.

Static IP's would have zero effect to what AP you associate to. The answer is to assign a specific SSID to your AP and your client card. If your using XP you can sspecify only use a specific Network (SSID) in the XP configuration utility. If your using Win2000 or a previous MS OS you would manage your SSID in the cards driver options.
