For games you can speed things up by creating a special
gaming account and turning all unnecessary services off.
You may find that most games load into RAM and don't use the
hard drive, but a faster hard drive will speed things up, at
least the speed at which the game loads.
Depending on your present mobo, you could get a new CPU,
perhaps with a larger cache.
But some P4s may be running at 400 MHz on the FSB and a new
CPU might jump your mobo FSB to 533.
Get EVEREST from www.lavalys.com and see what your settings
are now.
Make sure you have the latest ATI drivers, and get your mobo
manual to see what tweaks can be applied. See
www.blackviper.com for service settings for gaming, what you
can turn off and what you should not.

| Right now I have P4 1.7 ghz, 512 DDR RAM, XP Pro, 40gb
| harddrive @5200RPM.
|
| Once I got my Radeon 9800 Pro I was just a little
| disappointed as it wasn't running as I hoped. Any ideas
| then?
