Hi, I am currnetly facing a slight problem gettin my newly
built computer to boot to my HDD. The operating system I
am using is XP, I partitioned the HDD into 3, one primary
and two logical, all were 40GB each. I installed XP on the
C: drive (primary partition). However, when i try to boot,
I eventually get the message:

Verifying DMI pool date....

Boot from CD: then,

Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter

as if I cant boot from my own HDD. When I insert the XP
CD, it boots fine and then im ready to go. I dont
understand why I keep needing to insert the CD on bootup
however. Under Disk Management, the C: drive is my system
partition, and I am assuming its my boot partition as well
(even though it doesnt say). Please let me know if there
is anything I am doing wrong or anyway to help correct the
problem. Thanks

On a FAT32 system the primary partition on the boot drive had to be active -
as set using FDISK.

Don't know about NTFS if that is what you have.

Boot into the Command Console, using your WinXP CD,
then issue these commands to restore the proper boot
environment:

fixboot
fixmbr

He shouldn't have to do any of that. Go into your BIOS and check the
Order of Booting. Make sure that your harddrive is listed first. Also,
check the jumpers on your harddrive and make sure that it is set to
Master (Cable Select will work sometimes).

Also, once in Windows, right click My Computer and select Properties,
then go to the advanced tab, then click on Settings for Startup and
Recovery. Now click Edit and the text should read something similar to
this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional"
/fastdetect

Notice default=mutli(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS: Make sure this is
what yours says.

Im having the same problem and am stuck. I have a 120 Gb
drive partitioned up into three NTFS partitions. Windows
XP home is installed on my C: drive. I have set my FDD
to first boot device, my hard drive to second boot device
and CD-Rom to my 3rd. When I start the computer up i get
the same message as Joseph, except sometimes, even if I
dont press anything it will launch the Windows installer,
but a reset fixes this. Any help would be appreciated.
Here are my system specs if that is any help:
Proc: AMD Athlon 64 2800+
M/B: Giga-Byte GA-K8NS Pro, Bios F1
Ram: 1 GB of 3200 DDR
HD: 120 WD drive
Optical:plextor 12x DVD multiformat burner and Lite-on
16X DVD rom
Video:Sapphire radeon 9600xt
