Compaq?

What are the downsides getting a Notebook from Compaq? I've heard a few people warn others about Compaq w/o giving details. Do they have bad performance, customer service, reliability or are there those out there with a grudge against Compaq.

they r ok. pretty cheap price. I got one back in november (compaq 700us) It was 1000 bucks, for a duron 900, 256 mb ram, 20 gb(although it turned out to be 18 gb), s3 twister graphics card w/ 16 mb, 14.1", dvd, etc. Since then i have had a problem with my sound card, which i was able to fix with simply reinstalling the driver, and quite a few problems with my dvd. It wouldnt play dvds, or it would play very choppilly, and someytimes it would play fine. Nothing a nice reformatting would fix. IT works fine, but i wouldnt say it is the best.
