I presently have two 512 dimms of Kingston Value Ram, CL3, installed. I
want to double the ram.

I know I could use Kingston ram but I'm looking for a better value/deal,
perhaps on ebay etc.

I'm under an impression that Corsair and Mushkin cause problems with
these boards.

What manufacturers would be safe to use and to mix with the Kingston. I
was looking a Crucial and at Elixir.

What brands have people had good and/or bad experiences with?

TIA

Why not stick with a name brand and buy a product with a
warranty ? Sure, you could find some RAM on Ebay, but my
question would be, why is the seller selling it ?

Will saving $30 a stick, make up for the hassle of dealing
with a swine on Ebay ?

well - not if the seller is a swine - certainly not.

However, I have both bought and sold on ebay and have had good to
excellent experiences. I believe when selling, I was "excellent".

I sure hope not. I have 1 Gig of Corsair XMS memory on such a board.
Thus far no problems.

I've personally not experienced that problem but most 'experts' seem to
suggest matching, not mixing.

I have never had bad luck with Crucial on any system. I had one
system that went down after a nearby lightning strike. One of the
casualties of that episode was that the Crucial memory failed.
Crucial did not even care when I dialed their 1-800 number and told
them it most likely failed due to the lightning strike, they just
replaced it without any hassle. Gotta love that kind of service.

On my PC4800E-Deluxe I strayed from Crucial and bought two 512meg
sticks of OCZ PC3500 (433M). It has worked flawlessly for me so I
would not hesitate to look at OCZ as well.

Thanks for your recommendations.

Should I have any concerns about mixing 2 dimms of the Crucial, Corsair
or OCZ, with my present 2 dimms of Kingston Value? The Kingston has a
cl of 3 whereas some of the above are at 2.5 or even 2.

It`s a good idea to share dimms from the same kind, if you don`t, the
slower timings are applied (with auto setting in bios). Dimms running on
fast timings will give you very little gain in performance (notjing to
go for).

With the Kingston having a cl of 3, you might be able to run some OCZ 4200
along side it without a performance loss. I have 2x512mb 4200 and they have
a 3-4-4-8 timing by spd. Right now I am running them at 1:1 with a fsb of
255.
