I have two W2K machines and a direcpc satellite two way connection with
A D-Link wireless hub. The wireless hub is hard wired to the W2K machines.
The satellite is connected by USB to one of the pc’s. I went to the Norton AV
Web site and used the online tool they have to test my system for security and
Got a good report. Is this test reliable? Anyone else done this?

The symantec test is pretty good. I have tried it w/ and w/o my firewall running. W/O firewall running it says "YOU NEED A FIREWALL" or something to that effect, w/ the firewall up, it comes up clean, so you probably don't really need to worry too much. Althouhg free firewall programs are available, and don't really tie up too many resources.

Try running this site's tests.

There are two tests:

Test my sheilds: Tests for port 139 and NetBIOS connection.

Probe My ports: Tests commonly used and vulnerable ports, such as ports 80 (HTTP), 21 (FTP) and 23 (TELNET).

Ideally you want to see "stealth!" returns for all ports. Closed means seen but not open for hacking, although a determined hacker may make a note for future tries. and open means you need protection.

Oh. If you do have a firewall running. These tests will trigger an alert.
