I recently upgrade my computer from ME to XP.
When I did I disconnected all peripherals except one.
Of course this is the one I am having a problem with.
It is an HP Printer model Deskjet 693c connected to LPT1.
I have tried everything I know how to do including
deleting and reinstalling the driver several times.

When I connected the printer to another XP computer
plug and play came up and installed it. This does not
happen when I connect it to my upgraded computer.
When I try to print it goes through all the motions. It
shows in the print queue just as though it is printing but
nothing comes off the printer.

I believe remnants of the old driver etc remain on my
system and I do not know how to get rid of them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Richard

Richard, did you go here and download the latest driver
http://tinyurl.com/58kzd

Normally, WinXP has the drivers for your printer but since you did an
upgrade look in Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs for any Printer Software
and drivers and remove it. Disconnect the printer
from the Computer. Restart and let WinXP load. Then shutdown reconnect
the printer and see if XP
detects and reinstalls it. I had a 695 which worked fine after I did
this procedure.

Here is the HP page.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lang=en&lc=en&cc=us&docname=bpd09005&lang=en&cc=us

I would boot the system without the printer and go into printer and fax
and delete the printer entry, then reboot and follow the HP instructions.

Rich,

Thanks for the reply. I have been there. The
download is a text file which tells me there is
no XP driver, the windows supplied driver is
to be used. I tried but no luck.

Thanks
Richard

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply. I had already tried this
before the first message.

Richard

You need to COMPLETELY uninstall the old drivers. Common enough problem,
but it's caused in the first place by leaving the printer connected during
the upgrade.....

Cari,

Thanks for your help. I believe that the above gave me
the info I need at this line:

Look at the Toolbar. Select File, then Server Properties.
Look in the Drivers tab. Highlight the printer drivers listed
there and click on Remove for each one you do not need.

I have to go out of town for a few days but I will check
this out when I get back.

Thanks For Your Help
Richard
