Hard Drive Problem & Event 951

Recently my HD has started freezing up when trying to install apps my
hard drive will freeze up, and the only way I can regain control is by
killing the install program tn task manager. In the Event Viewer i get
a string of Error - Atapi - Event ID 9's and Warning - Disc - Event ID
51's

Looking under eventid.net, google and microsoft, I see possibilities
like the HD dying, the controller going bad, and alll sorts of things.
but nothing that seems to be specific to my problem.

Can you help me?
