I would like to use the Intellipoint 3.2 mouse drivers on
my Win XP Professional system. In the 3.2 version, you
are able to map a button to a specific key (in my case, a
side button of my optical mouse to the F8 key). In newer
versions, that functionality has been removed.
Can I safely install 3.2 even though I receive the
message that "This software is not compatible with this
Operating System?"

NO, but you can still get a copy of v4.12 of the driver. It is on
Microsoft's download page and even though it does not say for XP, it works
in XP.
