My Asus (P4S533) motherboard comes with a *SiS
chipset and includes USB2 drivers only for Win2000
and Win-XP but not Win'98 .......... :-(
Is there any way to enable USB2 using any third
party software/ driver?
.... Or ... Can an addon PCI USB2 Card enable the
USB2 function?
I'll stick to Intel chipset motherboards in future.....
TIA

*SiS 645dx =north bridge and SiS 962 =south bridge.

Some USB 2.0 controllers had some drivers created by third parties
(Orange Micro, etc.) for Windows 98, I don't know if you can get hold of
some of these. From what I've heard they didn't always work that well
however since the OS did not really support it.

This does not depend on chipset, all USB controllers basically use the
same driver for USB 2.0 (EHCI).

USB 2.0 support was integrated into Windows as part of Windows 2000 SP4
and Windows XP SP1, so no drivers are needed for those OSes.

There does seem to be a patch to allow USB1.1 in WIn98/ME - here

http://www.asuscom.de/pub/ASUS/mis [...] h_98me.zip

Unfortunately I can't see any drivers for USB2 in Win 9x :(

Verify that you have a SIS962 on the board. The Asus manual
for the P4S533 mentions a 961b as the Southbridge. This page
has a table that mentions what features are in each Southbridge.

http://www.sis.com/products/chipse [...] ge/96x.htm

The P4S533-VM has a SIS962. Maybe you have the -VM or -MX board?

I traced down a driver for this a while back.

http://groups.google.ca/groups?sel [...] .168.1.177

Since the MSI link is dead, try installing this file. It appears
to be an Orangeware driver, and would likely work with Win98SE.
No guarantees of course.

Confirmed ! It _is_ a SiS "962" - Sorry I neglected to mention
that the Motherboard is an Asus " P4S533-E "
So Paul, does your advise still apply ?
