With the Epson Stylus Photo 2200, is there a way to prevent the paper
from being ejected when one of the inks runs out?

Most of the time, when I press the ink button to get the print head to
move so I can remove the empty ink chamber and put in a new one, the
print head moves and then the paper is ejected, but sometimes the paper
isn't ejected and I can continue printing on the same sheet of paper.

I don't believe you need to press the ink button. I always use the on screen
status monitor. This will offer you instructions on how to change the cart
when it's empty. If you click ok to accept the instructions (and then follow
them) you don't press any buttons on the printer and all works ok. ...at
least it does on my Epson 2100 which is the UK version of the 2200.
