This game's got me beat - How do I?...

Hi I have Halo - Combat Evolved and was wondering how I enable the console.

I tried to edit the shortcut to: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Games\Halo\halo.exe -console -devmode" but when I ok it, it says not valid.
Does anyone know where I'm going wrong?

Got the console to work, but when I enter a command I get the followind
message "Requested function cannot be executed now"
Anyone know how I can get round this?

I think, probably am wrong but i think some of those are for dedicated
servers and the command won't work
some only work in devmode
