I got my new LG Flatron 915FT+ I though some of you might be interested in my observations. I was a little uneasy ordering this monitor because I had never seen one in person. I bought it based on the specs, the good comments from this forum and some very positive professional reviews. I paid $315 plus $43 for shipping from http://Techonweb.com. It took 8 days to arrive. That is shipping UPS ground from California to Georgia.
The box arrived in excellent condition. UPS was careful. Everything was there and set up was quick and easy. You have to snap in the swivel base which is not a problem except it tends to snap back out if you try to slide the monitor on your desk. You have to lift and place. But once you have the monitor where you want it the swivel base works great. A 19” monitor is BIG. I mean it is REALLY BIG. I don’t see why any home user would ever need anything bigger. It also took up all my desk space with just enough left for me to comfortably put my keyboard in front.
I turned it on and windows 98SE had no problems with detection. I loaded in the floppy for the USB monitor ports. I figure the additional 4 USB ports on the monitor saved me from having to buy a hub for $40. A very nice feature.
Picture quality was excellent. I did notice the concave effect at first (an artifact of the human brain when switching from traditional to flat screens). But after 30 minutes I never noticed it again. Type was easy to read, my scanned photographs matched the originals in color and intensity. My only difficulty was in adjusting the screen size to eliminate curves along the outer edges. I finally got it adjusted properly after about an hour of trying. Putting up test patterns of various grids showed everything to be straight both vertically and horizontally.
The monitor is uniform in brightness and color. There are no distracting lines or wires. Bottom line, I am very pleased with this monitor. Knowing what I know now would I still buy this over a 900NF, P95f or 109P all of which I have seen in stores? Yes, without question. My only complaint is the desk space this thing takes up. But unless you pay 3X or more for the LCD or 15X for plasma that is what you are going to get with any 19” monitor.
