hello everyone,
i am running xp home sp1. i have already installed
all of the available updates, including kb822603 but when
i rescan for updates it tells me i need kb822603. i have
tried uninstalling kb822603 from the control panel then
using update again to install it. it works, but again
kb822603 shows up when i do a scan for updates. can i
uninstall again and get the file from update catalog? i
have tried looking for it there but couldn't find it. any
help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Did you reboot in between installing and then looking again?

I tried looking around in the Windows Update newsgroup but didn't see
anything recent about this. Try microsoft.public.windowsupdate :)

Hi,
See : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=822798

or try:

1.. Start the Administrative Tools utility in Control Panel.
2.. Double-click Services.
3.. Right-click Cryptographic Services, and then click Properties.
4.. Click Automatic for Startup type, and then click Start.
5.. Try installing the Updates again. If the problem persists, go to Step 6.
6.. Click Start, and then click Run.
7.. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
8.. At the Command Prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each line:
net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc

9.. Type exit to close the command prompt, and then install Windows Updates again.

If you are not familiar with command prompt in step 6,7,8 & 9,
go to C:\windows\system32\catroot2
Right click on the catroot2 folder and rename it to CR2OLD.
Close windows and reboot then try download updates again.

Hope it helps.
