Q: Is it possible to deactivate the 'New Hardware' wizard?

Hallo group!

Is it possible to deactivate the 'New Hardware found' wizard? We have a
problem with a PCI board that is found with a different signature each time
our system reboots. This results in the hardware wizard showing up to
install it again. It would be nice to install the board once and then
disable the wizard. Does anyone know about such a possibility?

I have looked as to how to disable this and can't find anything on the
net. I'm not sure if disabling the Shell Hardware Detection Service
would fix this or not. I wouldn't really play with the services, but
maybe someone else knows if this would work.

You should actually try deleting the information pertaining to the PCI
device from the registry under HKLM-System-CCS-Enum-PCI. Remove the
Ven_Xxxx folder that contains info about the trouble hardware in it.

Disabling Plug and Play Service is NOT a good idea. This WILL most
likely HOSE your system and make it unbootable. Do not do this.

You absolutely right. This is what we will do. However, in the meantime, we
have some customers (resellers) who want a quick solution.
The problem is that the SUBSYS_ID changes on every reboot because it is
pinstrapped from some GPIO pins during PCI reset. The problem does not occur
on older PCs, only PCs with about 2,4GHz or faster. In addition, the problem
does not depend on the hardware configuration because it does not happen on
all PCs of the same type.
We will have to fix the GPIO problem but unfortunately, this means a
redesign of the board.
