HP Laserjet 1012 : drivers having problems with background..

Hello,

from the very moment I installed my HP Laserjet 1012, (and sharing it in my
home network) ,
I have problems with my connection to work using SecureClient VPN.
(Concretely, the problem is that, in order to make my PC and the printer
visible to my home network, I must disable the VPN policy ; afterwards,
after re-enabling the policy, I cannot connect anymore to my work).
I admit, my PC is a WIN98SE edition PC. Yes, one day or another, I will have
to "upgrade".....

I remember that I've read somewhere on Internet that the drivers of the HP
1010-1012 may have some trouble with "running background processes" or so.
Does anybody have any additional information or hint ?
