How do I remove WMP 12 from Win 7 Ultimate?

I use VLC and can recommend it for your default video player.
For an audio player I use iTunes.

You can turn off WMP12 and test to see if that will let you load up 11.
From Start Menu type features into the search bar.
Choose Turn Windows features on or off from the Control Panel section.
Look under Media Features, uncheck Media Player and reboot.
