I am experiencing this problem on 2 computers (both
running XP Home). Computer A has a DVD/CD-RW and
Computer B has a CD-Rom. Both were recently updated via
windowsupdate.microsoft.com and now neither system will
recognize cd's once placed in their respective drives.
The drive lights will flash and the motor will turn and
finally stop. Explorer shows an empty drive. Autoplay
does not effect it. Clicking on drive results in box
asking for cd to be inserted into drive.

The problem exists with store purchased data cd and/or
store purchased music cd.

I have tried removing drives from device manager and
reinstalling drivers. - does not work.

Any one else with similar experience or with suggestions
on how to resolve?

Thanks for the help,
CBR

None of those suggestions by Microsoft's knowlegdge base
work. I have a feeling it has something to do with the
registry, but I am not sure what to look for.

Anyone else with any ideas?
