Staples has the Brother HL-1440 for $99 after rebate - that's way less
than the cost of a new drum. Tempting to buy another one, just as a
spare. Anybody else go this route?

I haven't done that, but I have purchased a new HP inkjet printer for less
than the cartridges would be.Then threw the printer away! It's the typical
"rip off " that most printer companies try to pull.Instead of selling
consumables at "FAIR" prices, they charge as much as they can,and then
say,"not to use aftermarket cartridges,or we will not honor your warranty"!

Liked my first one so much paid 300 when it first came out. Bought a second
one. Image drums from aftermarket are now available for 30 bucks and you
install in minutes, rebuilt drum assy about 60-75 Toner real cheap
