Hi , thanks for looking :) , i had to swap out a faulty 1.8a cpu with intel
,and i now have its replacement
but for some reason i cant get the secondary ide channel to be recognised
anymore. i have tried all available bios's 1007-1011beta for the P4S533 ,and
set all defaults in the bios, set to auto /set to manual etc.... that didnt
help , tried replacing the cable (got a new one even too) if i plug the
CD/DVD into primary ide they are seen ok in bios etc. could the channel just
"die" ?

anyone seen this before , know any fixes or have another bright idea to try
?

thanks
Mick

This happened on my son's P4S333. After a while, it was acting so flakey
that I RMA'd it. They replaced the south bridge chip and it's been
working fine since.

Yes, the secondary IDE controller may have failed.
