ok heres the deal what is my best settings to overclock the cpu on my
a7n8x-e deluxe board with amd xp3000
i know all are diiferent . but i want to know what some people have
acomplished so far! i have 512 ram also .pc2700 .... ive got it up to 175
fsb with 13.0x and 1.65 volts .. anyone anyfaster.....?

Looks like your RAM will be the limiting factor.

Depends if you CPU is multiplier locked or not.

its not what could i move that to? thanks in advance...should i upgrade my
ram what would be your choice ?

if you bought decent ram you MAY be able to run at 200mhz..I am running a
Barton2500@200x11..have managed to hit 2400mhz..but had some stability
issues..I am using an A7N8X-Deluxe rev2.0

Ben,even if the CPU is unlocked wont he still be limited to multipliers
12.5x or greater? IIRC you posted a long time ago about the A7N8X and
the 5th bit or something? (3000+ default multi is 13.0x).

I have a 2800+ and can't go past 12.5x.

I have the same setup with 1G of Micron ram (Crucial) running at 182 fsb and
12.5X (~2275MHz) on a 2800+ Barton. All is very stable and cool.

Is there a 166 and a 200MHz FSB version of the 3000+?

The 5th bit is not under the control of the BIOS, so you can't traverse the
12.5/13 multiplier.

Unless you do a pin mod.

Basically you tie the 5th bit to 0 or 1 using a small piece of wire wrapped
around 2 almost adjacent pins on the CPU and whack it back in the socket.
You can put the wire in the socket also, but with the correct wire and
technique you should be able to do a neater job of the CPU.

If you want, there also devices that go between the socket and the cpu that
do it for you, they are marketed as "unlocking" devices, although this is
not true. Don't know if you can get both versions though.

Kind of wondering if your setup or mine would be better. I've heard that a
higher FSB is better than a faster clock speed, so what I have is
essentially done is left the clock speed the same a just raised the FSB by
using a lower multiplier... Or something like that, my spec will tell you.
Just wondering if the performance would be better my way, or yours...

2800+ Barton (Unlocked)
Default Voltage (1.65V I believe)
1G Micron (Crucial) PC3200
FSB 189 [according to the post screen (190 in BIOS)
Multiplier 11.0X
2090.157MHz

If I jump FSB up to 191 in bois I get nothing. There isn't even a point of
instability, just nothing... Would love to accomplish a FSB of 200, but it
doesn't seem to want to go. Perhaps I am missing a setting that I need to
lock down or something...?

Ideas or suggestions/comments are welcome...
