Programming TEC label printers

So I have a TEC B-419 label printer that I'd like to use to develop
some label printing code (direct to serial port with escape codes),
but Toshiba don't seem to be so forthcoming with the codes for their
label printers. Has anyone got an idea where I can get my hands on
these? I think I saw a "programmer's manual" for sale somewhere but it
was to the tune of $200 and there's no mention of anything like this
at their website.
