Combination P5AD2 and EAX600XT ( Radeon ) graphics card

I encounterd the problem that fast streams ( as avi-files ) and even input
on the screen stops/slows down the system and the VPU recovers ( sometimes
.... )
Even the system reboots after some time ( going from 5 sec to some minutes )
..
Even different drives ( pata or sata-drives or DVD's with Powerplay ) are
bringing to system down ( so Mediaplayer nor the drives them self are not to
blame - in my opinion ).
Having XP sp2 and the latest ( ? ) driver ( Catalyst 5.2 ) from ATI is put
on the system .
The whole system crashes and is much slower than my "old " classic system .
Are there remedies ? Are there some settings to change in the Bios of the MB
?
