Hi,
I am trying to install an "USB to 2x PS/2 adapter" on my laptop computer
(running Windows XP), so that I can connect an external PS/2 keyboard and
PS/2 mouse. The laptop doesn't have PS/2 ports. The USB to 2x PS/2 adapter
is a so called "active device", not just a wired plug like you get with some
computer mouses.
The device is supposed to work without additional drivers ("no software
driver needed" ), but I can't get it installed on my laptop computer.
I tried the device on two other computers, and there it works just fine.
Ather plugging the device into an USB port the installation sequence is like
this: Windows XP detects an "USBPS2" device, then installs a "USB composite
device" driver and then installs two "USB human interface device" drivers.
But on the laptop computer Windows XP detects the "USBPS2" device and a
while later it asks me to provide the proper driver software for the device,
which I don't have. I tried to point the installation wizard to the Windows
XP CD and the \windows\inf folder and others, but it keeps saying it can't
find a driver for the device.
Furthermore I tried to install the device manually "from the list", but I
can't find the "USB composite device"in the list.
I am also not able to find an apropriate driver on the web. Everywhere it
just says "No driver needed".
My question is, what can I do to get this USB to PS/2 adapter installed on
my laptop computer? (Dell Latitude D600, Windows XP SP1)
Thanks!
Btw, the USB to 2x PS/2 adapter is called "UC451N" and you can find some
links to this product with Google.
