Hi
This week I've put together the following
ASUS P4P800E deluxe
3.2Ghz P4 prescott
Primary IDE master HD
Secondary IDE master DVDRW
1 x 160GB SATA
400W PSU
Matrox Parhelia 128Mb 8xAGP
The Parhelia is rebelling!
According to the Matrox tech forum, quite a few people have had
trouble with Matrox P series graphics cards in the ASUS P4****
motherboards due to the 101h mode logo screen that flashes up before
the BIOS boot screens. Matrox provide a number of BIOS flash fixes
for their card. All of which I have applied to mine whilst installed
in another system with an Optronix motherboard.
In the ASUS board I just cannot get the Parhelia working, I have to
use another PCI card at present, without the PCI card, I get about 50
seconds of a full screen of pale colour from the Parhelia before it
all goes dark, whilst WinXP continues to load.
Using the old PCI card, I can boot to WinXP with the Parhelia onboard
in the AGP slot. I have also allegedly managed to install the
Parhelia drivers and device manager tells me "this device is working
properly". I can also see 2 greyed out screens in "display
properties/settings" waiting to be enabled, but trying to do this
results in a total system freeze.
I really don't know what the problem is.
In the ASUS manual, there is a jumper setting to configure for SMbus
2.0, I don't know what this means, could it be part of the problem?
I have had the Matrox card working fine in another system, and an ATI
128Mb 4x AGP card working fine on the ASUS board. It's mystifying.
