just installed a motorola pci wireless card in system. it
will ping but will not connect to the wireless provider.
running xp pro. new install so hard drive not full of
garbage. any suggestions on problem? Possible winsock
error?

If it pings then it can 'see' the iSP.
What you may require is a DNS sever address to be included in the TCPIP
configuration.
Call your ISP and ask them what their DNS details are: they will also give
you over the phone guidance as to where to include this information in your
Netwrok Connection config.

You will need the connection infromation from the ISP. Network SSID,type of network(WEP,WPA, etc)
and any keys that are need to authenticate.
