The USB ports on my PC suddenly stopped working. I have
Windows XP. Although the devices connected to the USB
ports used to work properly, now the device manager shows
that the USB ports are still working fine, but the
devices connected to the USB ports are not detected. I
even connected to the motherboard some other USB ports I
had but still no luck. Does anyone have any idea what
might be the problem??

It may be that the motherboard USB controller has fried [died].

Try removing the USB ports in device manager: and other USB items.

Reboot and see if it reinstalls them: and also if any attached devices are
recognised.

If nothing works, then get the MOBO checked out.

I uninstalled the USB ports in the device manager and
after I restarted it Windows detected the ports again.
However the devices connected to the USB ports are still
not detected. Any more ideas would be of great help.
Thanks

You wrote 'USB Ports suddenly stopped working'.

Reinstallation of drivers didn't fix the problem.

As I wrote before, "If nothing works, then get the MOBO checked out"'

Hardware has been known to fail.

I removed my usb ports on my compaq notebook and since then I have not been
able to reinstall it.
And it doesn't work.
I did it because the usb2 card I got did not work.
All the drivers are on the computer but it doesn't want to install any of
them.
Even when i use the compaq restore disk or my windows XP disk.
Any one have any ideas on to get it back without reinstall windowsXP?
