My friends computer got so slow she stopped using it.
I've had a look and it has a 6 gig hard drive with only
523 meg of space left. It has never been defragged. I
gefragged it and reclaimed some space. I installed
partition magic and converted it to ntfs from fat 32 and
reformatted the hard drive. I have changed the boot
sequence and inserted the win 2000 disk but it says "Disk
boot failure, insert system disk."
what do I do now please?

1. Change Boot order in BIOS to:
CD
HDD
FDD

2. Boot off the CDrom
3. Reinitialise the partition and create 1x Primary
partition using all the available space
3. Install the Operating System
4. Apply Drivers where neccessary
5. Do all updates from Microsoft Updates Website.
6. Hey Presto, simple as 1,2,3,4,5

You insert system disk.

Seriously, replace CDROM drive - it cannot read.

You just may be SOL. A 6GB HDD indicates to me that
this is a really dated boxen. As the saying goes: one
cannot make a silk glove out of a sows ear.

If you can't get the CD to boot there should be image files on the CD which
will enable you to create the 4 floppy disk installation boot disks. Look
at the disk with Explorer and find the files.
