I downloaded and installed the HALO: Combat Evolved trial for PC. I was
considering buying the game and wanted to try the trial first.

It will NOT run.

P4c 3000, 512MB Corsair XMS
I have WinXP, SP2
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Cat 4.11 driver
DX 9c

Game will not launch. It says; "A problem occurs initializing Direct3D.
Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG.

All is setup correctly. Unreal Tournament 2004 runs great as well as Doom3.
Actually, this is the first game I have tried that won't run.

How can I consider buying the game if it won't run?

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Sorry didn't notice "DX 9c" at the bottom last time.

Did you read the release notest that come with it? There are notations in
there about tweaks to make to the video card settings to get it to run with
each particular model.

it should work fine
maybe it's a corrupt download ?
try it again as I installed the demo, the PC 3 times and even Halo CE where
there are hundreds of new multplayer maps avail
I am sure it will work and if not a post on their tech boards will get it
fixed
it's actually better than halo 2 for many as far as the maps for MP
the pistol change is one of the things folks are not happy with as it was
uber powerful in h1, in h2 it's weakened a ton but probably more realistic

I'm referring to the following 2 sections of the readme file:

1st:
ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128: You may experience inconsistent graphic performance
with textures if you set the Mipmap Detail Level in the ATI Direct3D Control
Panel to any setting except High Quality.

2nd, command line switches:

-nogamma
Disables adjustment of gamma.

-useff
Forces the game to run as a fixed function card.

-use11
Forces the game to run as a shader 1.1 card.

-use20
Forces the game to run as a shader 2.0 card.

-safemode
Disables as much as possible from the game.

-window
Runs the game in a window.

Have you tried those things?

-Russ.

It's only ever been out for the PC. Buy Halo PC, download Halo CE for free,
and play.

You can play Zanzibar (Halo 2 map) and New Mombasa (Halo 2 map from demo
that never made it to production) right now.

But does anyone know when Halo2 for PC will be out? Will it ever?
