Hello/help
My system (P4C800E Deluxe) has started to get this error message on
booting " Reboot and select the proper boot device. Or insert boot
media in selected boot device and press a key"
Operating system Windows 2000 Pro SP4 both 80G HDs serial BIOS flashed
to the latest as of 2 months ago

This seems to be a very intermittent problem... so far. and has booted
properly the second time every time....so far.

Any one with any thoughts as to where to start.. This a MB issue? OS?
BIOS?

Is there a setting in the bios for the amount of time it waits for the
drives
to spinup? It sounds like your boot drive isn't being recognised the first
boot. ON the reboot since the drives have spunup their recognised.

Don't bother..
It's the drive. Controller on the drive is on the way out and one day soon
it will fail completely.
If your drive has been OK for a year or more then expect to be coughing up
some mullah for a new drive!!

Not really what I would like to hear... Its a SATA 80G drive less than
a year old.. Will try and find the mfg site and perhaps a forum or
support group. Maybe some diagnostic software.. warranty ??
For the time being have moved the computer into a warmer area of the
house (was in a pretty cool basement). Perhaps the drive is a little
stiffer / slow to start when cold...

If you can install the drive in another system- to see if there is any delay
in it being recognised by the BIOS - that might tell you that it's the
drive that's at fault.
It's not the change in ambient room temperature.
You can try a diag. program . Maxtor and WD both have one. They're both
pretty lame and they might not pinpoint all problems.
All recent drives have at least 1 year's warranty - some have 3 (or even 5)
depending on make and model.
Go to the manufacture's support section of their web site.

I've have seen this problem before. The drive works perfectly while
running, but start-up is a pain.
The result has always been a bad drive.
