DMA ability under SP2

I have 2 HD's on IDE1.
WD 40G as C. DMA enabled and shows Ultra DMA Mode 5 .
Samsung SP1203n as D. DMA enabled but shows PI0.

Have uninstalled the IDE driver and reinstalled to no effect.
Prior to SP2 upgrade ( which went like a dream) both drives showed Ultra DMA
Mode 5 .
The 2nd HD certainly doesn't seem slow.
Anyone have any advice please.

I have experienced the same thing, except on my secondary IDE channel
where my ZIP and NEC-1300A DVD-RW is installed: Everything worked
fine using DMA Ultra 5 mode pre-SP2. Installed SP2 and Windows XP
will only use PIO mode on my DVD-RW, regardless of the setting for
that IDE device in Device Manager. Uninstalling SP2 then changing the
setting to 'DMA if available' does the trick. Nothing I did would get
XP to use DMA on this device. Primary IDE channel DID keep DMA on
both HDs. AFAICT, its some sort of bug or incompatibility with SP2.
For now, I'm avoiding SP2.

Wow, you must have an NEC 1300A on steroids! I have never heard of that
drive running at DMA mode 5 or ATA 100! On my system it runs at Ultra DMA
mode 2 as does my NEC 1500A. To my knowledge that is top speed for these
drives. You must have a one of a kind unit!

Sheesh, it was a mistype. The HDs use mode 5, the 1300A uses mode 2.
