I've wanted to build my own PC chassis for a while, but I have not found a site that gives any info on what parts to look for or how I should go about it. Any info would be appreciated.

I guess it would depend on how much of the case you would want to build completely yourself. I would think that the use of for instance drive bays from an old case would be a lot easier than building everything yourself.
Even if you want to build every component yourself I would look at other cases and take the best ideas from each and combine them.

Also having been in metal work for some time I hope that you have access to sheet metal tools and knowledge in the trade. Then again the most important ingredient is self motivation.

Good luck

An all wooden case with a dark lacquered/leather exterior would be pretty sweet.

Yea, with two inches of insulation. You know, to keep the components from getting cold.
