CD-ROM, failure to refresh?

Not quite sure how to explain this, but here it goes.

I'll turn on my computer and put in a disk, let's say, for example, Windows
Office Disk 1. It reads it, no problems, and then I am prompted for Windows
Office Disk 2. I will eject Disk 1, insert Disk 2, but Windows and/or the CD
Drive still reads the CD as Disk 1. I can explore it, and it has all of the
files of Disk 1, not Disk 2.

I will keep ejecting and reinserting Disk 2 but to no avail. It always
comes up as Disk 1.

This problem has been popping up for as long as I have had my computer: with
any disk.

If I put in, let's say, Quake III, and play a little bit. Afterwards, I
will eject Quake III, and put in Asheron's Call or Diablo or Photoshop, and
the CD/Windows still displays the CD in the drive as Quake III. I don't know
how to fix this, and it is making life extremely difficult.

Please help, thank you in advance,
Dan

I am here looking for the answer to this very question. I am having the same
problem. There must be a setting somewhere to fix this, but I haven't been
able to find it.
