You need to press F6 during the install when prompted and have the Sata
Drivers on a floppy disk.

Advanced -> Onboard Device Configuration -> Onboard Promise Controller
-> Operating Mode

Set to IDE Mode

If you are not planning on overclocking I would use the Via Controller
instead.

but i find the boot piority menu in the bios there is one drive seems
like VIS 6xxx 1st HDD. what it is? and i tried press tab to the menu
config SATA RAid but no response if i press any key.

Are you sure you have the Promise Sata Drivers on the floppy and not the Via
Sata Drivers ?
You also have to make sure which Sata Connections you have the hard drive
connected to. (Either the Via or Promise)

Hello, tHe!

Could you elaborate? I had problems when I used the Promise drivers so ended
up with setting my RAID0 SATA array on the Via Controller. Works great but
I've not yet tried O/C'ing.

Thanks,

Colonel Blip.

Lot's of reports that the VIA controller chokes after a 10% speed up.
I use the Promise one so I don't have first hand knowledge, check out
viaarena.com for more info.

Hi Paul.
If your board is the plain A8V then you have the Via VT8237 Raid
Controller.

In the bios settings under Onboard Devices - Set the Onchip Sata Rom to
Enabled.

In the bios under Boot Menu / Boot Device Priority set the 1st boot
device to your CD.
2nd boot device to SCSI or the Raid controller (not sure on yours how it
is shown)

Save those bios settings.

During the next reboot hit the TAB key to enter the Raid Setup.

It should show the one Sata drive. You should have the option to setup the
Raid with the one drive.

In the A8V manual in section 5.7 it states how to create the floppy for
the Raid Driver. Follow those directions to make the floppy.

After you have the floppy created, Have the XP CD in the drive, The floppy
in the floppy drive and boot the computer. You will have to hit a key to
boot from the cd.
Watch for the prompt to hit F6 during the first part of the installation.
When to gets to the point where it needs the driver for the Via Raid
Controller, Hit S to allow it to install the drivers from the floppy.

Good Luck and post back with any questions you might have.
