Whenever I restart my computer the found new hardware
wizard starts wanting to install a printer. I tried
deleting the registry but it says it is protected and
can't be deleted. I tried the usual deleting the printer
and going through the install process to no avail. Any
ideas? Driving me nuts.

The only time I have seen this is with an older HP multi-function printer.

The device is connected properly, works properly for all functions, but
Windows keeps seeing it as new each time. There must be an error in the
drivers from HP.

A way to stop this message is to proceed with device installation, however
there is a screen which offers the choice of 'do not prompt to install this
device in the future' [or words to that effect. Make sure that this option
[or whatever it reads] is checked off.

Ensure you uninstall and reinstall correctly?

If it still shows up every time, then see:
