P4 640 + ASUS P5GD2 DELUXE

Hi,

I have this motherboard since oct 2004 (ever installed).

I think the bios is 1003 version and I plan to buy a P4 640 but ASUS says
that this cpu is not supported by bios with earlier version than 1006.

To flash the bios 1003 =>1006, the system needs to boot. But so that the
system starts it is necessary that the CPU is recognized by the bios !!!

Will my system start (with this cpu) to enable me to update the bios ? I do
not have either an other older processor to make this modification.

I asked for opinions in various forums and I never had the same answers.

I need somebody who already made this installation.
