i have an asus k8v-x motherboard with a built in Marvell 88E8001GbLAN
chip. The specs on the asus site says that the mobo supports the
virtual cable tester. But when i lauched the exe it won't allow to run
it. The "run" button is greyed out or lock or something. Should i
contact asus or the store where i bought the mobo from or is this a
software problem?

You must not be connected to a hub or other device that makes the link
active. The DSP must not be active for the test to work. The VCT help
file describes the resultant diagnostic messages after you run the utility.
