By "reinstalling" do you mean you removed them and rebooted? Have you
tried updating your chipset drivers? Try both of these and report back

By "reinstalling" I mean I removed them in the "Device manager" and "scanned
for hardware changes". The drives worked fine before an "unmountable drive"
blue screen. Then I had to chkdsk in the "Recovery console" to boot Windows
XP again.

How to update my chipset drivers? My mainboard is an old Chaintech 6btm
card.
