This has been a on-going issue, so much so that I ditched
Windows in May in order to use my machine and wait for a
fix...
The Problem is the USB ports failing to recogize any
device plugged in...I have XP Pro SP2 (same thing
happened in XP SP1) running on a AMD Duron system 256
megs ram...USB ports work fine if I slap in the Win98 HD
or the Debiam Linux HD...just can't get XP to play nice.
I have up-dated all the Viva drivers (yep, it's a Viva
chipset).

Any thoughts? This pretty much kills what I bought XP to
do, since all my cams and PDA's are USB. ack....

I think you mean it is a VIA chipset and here are the latest drivers.
Try these:

Yes you are correct, VIA :)

Thanks for the link to the lastest drivers, installed
them and .....nada....

It now sees that there is a PDA on the system, but it
tells me the device has malfunctioned...same with the USB
KB or my Canon camera....yikes..

All of the above currently work on this machine under
either W98 or Linux....just not XP.

Hi !

We are millions to assume this inacceptable technical problem... We restart
like W95 ((

"Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products
that are listed in the "Applies to" section."

Just have a look on that:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;873169&Product=windowsxpsp2

Any attemps installing drivers could't solve such problem
