I recently replaced a CD-reader & CD-writer with a DVD-
reader & DVD writer in a Win98SE PC.
When it boots up it shows 8 DVD-readers & 8 DVD-writers!
This didn't happen with the previous CD drives.
Tried deleting them, no good. Removed all but one of
each, no good.
Win98SE is fully updated. Any thoughts?

First of all this is the newsgroup for WindowsXP and related hardware
assistance, you'd have better assistance in the Windows98 newsgroups but....

Remove ALL of the extra drives... and reboot. 98 should find only a single
instance of each on the restart.
